It
was June 24th, 1980, "San Juan's day", when for the first time the public
of Guadalajara listened the Silvia’s voice, interpreting Pirecuas, Romances,
Corridos, Arrullos en Huichol, Boleros and Songs by Pancho Madrigal, Luis
Manuel Mercado, Gabino Palomares, Marcial Alejandro, Agustín Lara,
Tomás Méndez, Joaquín Pardavé. The concert
took place in the «Agora» of the former monastery del Carmen!
Thirteen years later, the Silvia Abalos', personality and charming voice is joined with the talent of José Luis Montiel, gifted musician with a long experience and knowledge of the rhythms and instruments of Latin America. Together, they start the "Te'Ome" project in January '98 in Milan; although it is since '93, in Mexico City, that they begin to work together like a duet of voice and guitar. The "Te'Ome" name comes from the Nahuatl language and means "We Two". In '98, during their stay in Italy, they collaborate with the excellent percussionist Fabrizio Pelizza in different projects; following these collaborations, they invite it to join their duet and this trio presents itself in different cultural events in the north of Italy. Since its creation, "Te'Ome" distributes the old and modern Mexican music, sung in Spanish or Indigenous languages, as well as popular and folk music in that universally well known country of big composers. It's for them essential to present the works of young Mexican composers as Rafaél Mendoza, David Haro, Marcial Alejandro, Rafaél Catana, Guillermo Briseño, and José Luis Montiel himself, without forgetting the poetical inheritance left by Agustín Lara, Chamaco Domínguez, Alvaro Carrillo, Consuelito Velázquez, Tomás Méndez, Don Gabriel Luna, Armando Manzanero and many others that wrote the yesterday and today Mexico's musical history. In 2002, they decide to quit for short time Italy; Fabrizio Pelizza decides to remain in Milan but promises to join them later. In 2003, in the city of Brussels, Silvia and José meet with the talented Venezuelan musician David Nuñez, who come from the contemporaneous music. They propose the project to David, who accepts and joined them! So, the talent of this couple was added to the indisputable Nuñez's musical quality. Every time that "Te'Ome" presents itself in concert, the public carried away by the power of their music! This singular trio (that from March 2004 will become a sextet, since it will see itself completed by a percussionist and two multi-instrumentalists originated from three different countries), go beyond the categories and kinds, by the fusion of deep Indigenous roots, African and Spanish that listen to themselves mainly in Veracruz, Guerrero and Costa Chica music, united to jazz, or by rhythms as rap and contemporary music, giving as result an exploding mixture that some are calling "Te'Ome Sound." At the present time, their first disk is about to be published, with pieces of Rafaél Mendoza, David Haro, Agustin Lara, Alvaro Carillo, some others of the public domain and two pieces of José Luis and Silvia. All the people is invited to plunge in this world of colors, sounds and flavors of "Te'Ome"… Listen:
